WALKER Street Gallery will display an exhibition exploring the power of envisioning the ordinary. Synthesis will showcase the works of five diverse artists, Jeremy Elkington, Janine Good, Nadine Lineham, Sue Osborn and Neil Wyatt, each with their own unique visual imagery that explores both interior and exterior landscapes.
Mr Elkington says while the focus of his work remains in Islamic art, he has been trying to create sensations.
“A sense of mystery and something greater than ourselves, beyond our comprehension, where hidden narratives are played out,” he said.
Ms Good uses scarred and imperfect surfaces of natural forms including bark, seeds, leaves and insects, put together through improvised layering, to create visually tactile imagery, often reminiscent of textiles.
Ms Lineham’s Navigator Series explores life’s answers at a molecular level.
“I have been influenced by the scientific theories known as String Theory,” she said. “This allows me to constitute connections, like a universal web showing structure within a maze.”
Ms Osborn’s primary focus is on detailed, Super-Real acrylic, often with environmental and political statements.
The strength of Mr Wyatt’s work comes from the symbolism, vivid colour and dream-world compositions.
Synthesis will be on display at Walker St Gallery, corner of Walker and Robinson streets, Dandenong, from 1 to 26 September. Opening night will be held on Thursday, 3 September, from 6.30 pm to 8.30pm. For details contact Jacqueline Schultze on 9706 8441.
