THE Springvale community will soon have access to a new memorial and community garden aimed to give people a place to socialise and connect.
Ian Johnson, from the Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA), said he approached the Springvale Indo-Chinese Mutual Assistance Association (SICMAA) about putting in a garden for its members about a year ago.
The Springvale RSL then agreed to donate the land and garage and DVA provided the funding for the garden.
Mr Johnson said however that it was definitely not the RSL and SICMAA’s garden, but there for the whole Springvale community to enjoy.
“It will help build a stronger community,” he said.
“It promotes social connectedness and a healthier lifestyle as it gets people out of their homes and exercising.”
The Memorial and Community Garden will be officially opened on Friday, 18 September, at 9.30am on the premises at 19 Osborne Avenue, Springvale.
People are required to help with the maintenance of the garden.
For details contact the Springvale RSL on 9548 4322.
