Cash for school pride

By Casey Neill

Dandenong West Primary is “over the moon” about its $5.1 million State Budget boost.

The school will demolish existing facilities and build a new learning community area with five classrooms, administration and staff workspaces.

The cash will also build a multipurpose area and a canteen.

Money for planning came in the 2016-’17 State Budget, so the school can now appoint and builder and get started.

“The highlight for me is that we’re able to show our community that education really matters,” principal Beverley Hansen said.

“We’re absolutely so over the moon and excited.

“It’s just so wonderful for the school.

“For many years we’ve been hoping and working towards new buildings coming onto our site.

“It’s something the community has wanted.”

Ms Hansen said the upgrades would have an impact on student learning.

“They’ll be sitting in spaces where they can have absolute pride in themselves and their school,” she said.

Dandenong MP Gabrielle Williams said she was thrilled the students would benefit from new facilities and classrooms.
