Keysborough CFA brigade will open up its doors and fire trucks for its annual open day.

The brigade is expecting a bumper crowd on 21 October to enjoy attractions such as a jumping castle, dunk tank, colouring competition, sausage sizzle, door prizes and a kids’ fire safety obstacle course.

Brigade member Mark Baverstock said the obstacle course helped teach children what to do in the event of a fire at home, such as crawling along the floor away from smoke and fumes.

CFA volunteers will also demonstrate fire safety tips such as using extinguishers, smoke alarms and home fire safety.

“The day is not about raising money, but it’s more about education.”

The station is also on the look-out for volunteer recruits, especially day-time responders to keep up with the ever-growing numbers of homes, factories and warehouses in the area.

“We’re just getting busier and busier.”

Keysborough CFA Open Day is at 121 Chapel Road Keysborough on Sunday 21 October, 10am-2pm.
