MORE than 140 jobs have been created with the opening of ALDI Stores new Warehouse and Distribution Centre in Dandenong yesterday (Wednesday).
The opening of the $140 million centre was a significant milestone in ALDI’s expansion and future growth plans in Australia, managing director Dandenong region Damien Scheidel said.
“The 56,000 square metre Dandenong Warehouse and Distribution Centre is one of the largest ALDI facilities in the world and it will service 38 ALDI stores by the end of this year,” he said.
“At capacity the warehouse will support between 100 and 120 ALDI stores and as stores are added to the network, new jobs will be created.
“Importantly, the facility will help support our expansion into south east Victoria and beyond, so we can bring ALDI’s promise of smarter shopping to more people.”
The centre boasts an array of features, including an floor layout that enables quick drop offs and store order pick ups, a large freezer, chiller and a temperature controlled chocolate room which stores fresh produce. “We are particularly proud of the design elements such as the water catchment tanks installed to capture rainwater runoff to operate the irrigation system, demonstrating our commitment to sustainability,” Mr Scheidel said.
“We have changed the retail landscape in Australia since opening our first store in 2001 and have made a long term commitment to foster economic development in Victoria and provide our customers with high quality goods at permanently low prices.”
ALDI’s new Dandenong Warehouse and Distribution Centre is located at 41 Colemans Road, Dandenong South, Victoria.
