Blessings for new station

THE site of the new Springvale Police Station was blessed this week in a multifaith ceremony.
Victoria Police Senior Chaplain Jim Pilmer blessed the Erickson Gardens, Springvale, site, which will house a new police station next year, on Monday.
The multifaith ceremony included blessing coins and medals, which Springvale Police Acting Senior Sergeant Gerard de Vries said would be included in the building’s foundations.
“These objects are from all over the world and represent the cultural and linguistic diversity of both the Springvale community, as well as the police officers that serve our community,” he said.
Acting Sen Sgt de Vries said the multifaith ceremony reflected the diversity of the Springvale community.
The new station was announced in October and will cost $9.5 million to construct.
At the announcement Police and Emergency Services Minister Tim Holding said the new station would be completed by October 2006.
The 24hour station would host all 72 current staff and allow for a growth of 17 more.
