IT WAS a day of history making at the Sandown Classic Day on Saturday.
While Zipping became the first horse in 122 years to win four Patinack Farm Sandown Classics, Jessica Hendrick became the second person in the history of the Sandown Classic Day Fashions on the Field competition to win twice.
Ms Hendrick, from Black Rock, won the Fashions on the Field 18 years and over section, which she also won in 2008. The runner-up this year was Nessrin Elraoui from Sunshine.
The winners received a range of prizes including a holiday to Hayman Island, shopping vouchers and Rokk Ebony Hair vouchers.
The winner in the 13 to 17 years section was Isabelle Sanfilippo from Mornington, with last year’s winner, Robyn Hockaday from Moonee Ponds, runner-up. Mia Sango, from Croydon Hills, was the winner and James Brownley, again last year’s winner, was runner-up in the age four to 12 section.
Melbourne Racing Club officials said they were very pleased with the response from racegoers at the metropolitan finale to the Spring Racing Carnival.
Despite the wet weather, Sandown Classic Day attracted a crowd of about 8500.
