Armed robbers prey on eatery

A pair of masked robbers wielding a silver axe has held up three workers at a Sri Lankan and Indian food outlet in Dandenong.

The would-be armed robbers wore masks, hoodies and gloves as they entered the front door of the Cleeland Street eatery about 11pm on Friday 6 September.

One of them produced the axe and ran behind the counter, causing two workers to flee out the back of the building.

The offender discovered the till had already been emptied, and left out the front door.

On their way from the scene, the axe-wielding robber then approached the store’s owner parked in a van outside.

Using the axe, the offender repeatedly smashed the bonnet and then the driver’s side of the front windscreen. The van’s occupant escaped injury.

The pair fled in a white Nissan SUV.
