Park on the move

DANDENONG’S pop-up-park will feature Australian first soccer pitches.
VicUrban Development Director Christopher Hermann said the pitches were donated by Dandenong business Advanced Polymer Technology, the same business which was awarded the contract to supply the hot pink and blue hockey pitches for the 2012 London Olympics.
“The multi-purpose surface will be used by young people in Dandenong for five-a-side soccer and other activities when the pop-up-park opens in May,” Mr Hermann said.
The two Poligras Mono outdoor synthetic soccer pitches were installed this week.
Advanced Polymer Technology Managing Director Martin Schlegel said the pitches offered the best ball roll in the industry.
“The synthetic soccer pitches feature an advanced non-directional fibre achieving the truest ball roll in the industry,” Mr Schlegel said.
“You can also slide and tackle on the surface without suffering skin abrasions or burns.”
The pitches are low maintenance and are made of rubber from recycled tyres.
The pop-up-park, built in partnership between VicUrban and Mission Australia, will be open next month and is mostly relocatable.
It is located on Foster Street near Dandenong Station and within five years will either remain at the site or be moved to another area in Dandenong.
