Jobs in store

By Danielle Galvin
A PHARMACEUTICAL distribution centre in Dandenong South will create 100 jobs in the south-east.
Last week, Victorian Technology Minister Gordon Rich-Phillips opened the centre, which is a joint venture between Ascent Pharmahealth, Eris Pharmaceuticals and Central Healthcare Services.
The 10,000 square metre facility has been in operation since January.
Ascent CEO Dennis Bastas said he was proud of the facility.
“The builder who worked on the project was really committed to the task.”
Mr Bastas explained how the project grew from the initial proposal.
“Melbourne Water gave us more and more land. The business has grown rapidly and our new facility increased in size by 50 per cent of what we initially thought,” he said.
The 100 new staff are expected to come on board by December 2012.
Mr Rich-Phillips said thathe looked forward to the further success and expansion of thebusiness and jobs in the south-east.
“I drive down Greens Road and I’ve been watching the facility grow,” Mr Rich-Phillips said.
He explained how the pharmaceutical industry bolstered the Victorian economy.
“Victoria is already a major centre for Australia’s medical and pharmaceutical sector, and has a growing manufacturing base which supports exports in excess of $1 billion every year.”
