Last bus out

GRENDA’S move from Dandenong will be met with sadness from the local business community.
Jamie Sturgess, managing director of Macpherson and Kelley Lawyers, said the business and Grenda family were Dandenong icons, and would be missed.
“It is with a bit of sadness we see Grenda go,” he said.
“As an organisation and as individuals the Grenda family have been very, very important to Dandenong.”
The Grenda family announced the decision to put Grenda Transit and Volgren on the market to staff on Tuesday 9 August, after nearly seven decades in the bus industry.
Ken Grenda, director of Grenda Transit said management decided the business would be better positioned under the care of an organisation with strong ambitions in the industry.
Mr Sturgess said he hoped the management continued working for Grenda when it sold, because along with the Grenda family, they had become part of Dandenong.
“It was absolutely fantastic that whenever something happened in Dandenong and you needed help or assistance, Grenda was someone you thought of and came through.”
“But despite all that, people are in business to achieve success and if you’re running a great operation for 70-plus years and then sell it – that’s not a bad way to define success.”
