DANDENONG’S basketball community lost one of its favourite sons with the passing of Charles Ryan.
The Dandenong Basketball Association president and life-member lost his two-year battle with lymphoma last Saturday 3 September. He was 62.
He leaves behind his wife Colleen, son Nathan and daughters Bianca and Caitlyn.
Mr Ryan’s contributions to basketball have been extensive, not only to Dandenong but to the greater Victorian and Australian community as well.
He has been a board member and vice-president of Basketball Victoria, a member of the Basketball Australia High Performance Commission and a board member of the Women’s National Basketball League.
He has also had numerous national coaching roles and headed up basketball court operations at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
Dandenong Basketball Association CEO Graeme Allen said Mr Ryan’s passion and commitment to the sport inspired many who worked with him.“
His passion, commitment, dedication, vision and wisdom really drove the direction of the association of that time,” Mr Allen said.
