Southern Stars aim high for season end

By Gavin Staindl
THE fate of the Southern Stars will be determined in two days as it seeks back-to-back promotions.
Last year’s Division Two champions are only goal-difference out of the top two as they prepare to play out the final round of the Division One season against Langwarrin on Saturday.
Heading into the weekend’s match, the Stars trailed the Whittlesea Zebras by a goal difference of four, but after smashing the Bulleen Lions 5-0 at Kingston Heath on Saturday night, the Stars reduced the deficit to two.
Chris Greechan single-handedly kept the Stars in the race for Premier League promotion, bagging four goals against the Lions, including a hat-trick by half time.
The Stars will travel to Lawton Park to play Langwarrin at the same time the Zebras meet Fawkner Blues on Saturday.
MEANWHILE, with the Division One promotion stitched up, champions Dandenong City had the rare opportunity to experiment with line-ups and play without fear of dropping points when it hosted Noble Park on Saturday.
The fast-paced game proved a hit for spectators and players alike, with Noble Park walking away with a 4-3 win.
Barring a 16-goal miracle this week against Noble Park, Heatherton has been relegated after a 1-0 loss to the Eastern Lions at Bosnia and Herzegovina Centre.
In the other Division Two match, South Springvale upset the Morwell Pegasus 2-1 at Ronald Reserve in Morwell.
And it was party time for Provisional One side Springvale City, who smashed Lyndale United 7-0 at Lyndale Secondary.
