A TEENAGER has been arrested and charged over the fatal stabbing of a Berwick man in Dandenong two weeks ago.
Police arrested the 18-year-old in Frankston at 2.45pm on Friday 16 September and charged him with one count of murder.
The victim was stabbed on the second level of a Dandenong Plaza carpark about 11pm on Tuesday 6 September.
Police were alerted to the crime after a teenager, who knew the victim, flagged down a passing patrol car.
Detective Inspector John Potter said on the morning after the murder that the victim was stabbed before falling, or being thrown, from the second level of the Myer carpark.
“The deceased was involved in some sort of incident on level two of the carpark and has fallen or been thrown to ground level,” he said.
“There is an extensive amount of blood in the area.”
The victim was later confirmed as a 20-year-old Berwick man, but police have not released his name.
Police also investigated a possible link to an earlier brawl between Sudanese youths near the Dandenong Library. It was broken up by police about 8.30pm on the same night.
The 18-year-old accused appeared before a children’s court on Monday. He was still 17 when the incident occurred.
He was remanded in custody to reappear before Children’s Court on 6 January.
