JOHAN Vorster is the man who stole a Christmas victory from Parkfield (227), as Hallam Kalora Park (8/229) claimed a crucial two-wicket win to stay in finals contention.
Shane Bell and Steve Spoljaric ripped through the top order of Hallam Kalora Park. At 4/46, the South African import Vorster (114 not out) came to the crease and put together a 35 run partnership with Luke Byron (18).
With Byron’s dismissal came Nick Cox (42) and with Vorster the pair set about catching the Parkfield total. Their 117 run stand for the sixth wicket is second only to Spoljaric and Tony Payne’s 137 run partnership for Parkfield in the first innings.
Cox was dismissed by Spoljaric at 6/196 and the remaining 33 runs came mostly from Vorster’s blade, who notched his century before guiding Hallam Kalora Park to the victory. Shane Bell took four wickets for Parkfield.
@BT Sub Sport News:DANDENONG WEST V NARRE WARREN
Hats off to Dandenong West (149) wicketkeeper Adam Mason, who managed to dig the Wests out of trouble against Narre Warren (129). Dandenong West was 6/68 when Mason made his way to the crease and soon found himself staring down a disaster at 8/82. Mason burdened most of the heavy lifting as he worked his way to a remarkable 57 not out to pull off an unlikely escape with support from tailenders Andrew Harry (seven) and Nathan Goodes (six).
Dushan Wickramaratne (4/42) and Nathan King (3/27) were the best of Narre Warren’s bowling troupe, with nine Magpies rolling an arm over trying to dismiss Mason. Narre Warren slips out of the top four with the loss.
@BT Sub Sport News:SPRINGVALE SOUTH V
BUCKLEY RIDGES
Springvale South (6/176) kept hopes alive in their title defence with a first innings victory over Buckley Ridges (170). Steve Masterson (43) and Jim Boyd (44) put on 59 for the second wicket before Wes Nicholas removed Boyd’s bails with scores at 2/97. Masterson kept plugging away at the total and with Craig Slocombe (28) got the Bloods within striking distance. Jeremy Kuru (4/54) removed Masterson and at 5/145 there was life yet in Buckley Ridges.
Suranjith Silva (19) and Jackson Sketcher (12 not out) completed the job for Springvale South, despite having to survive against the thunderous work of Kuru and Te Ahu Davis. Wes Nicholas (2/34) was other multiple wicket taker for Ridges.
@BT Sub Sport News:HEINZ STHERN DISTS v NORTH DANDENONG
North Dandenong (5/190dec) judged their declaration to perfection, winning outright against Heinz Southern Districts (48 and 142). Janahan Kumaralingam (70) plundered the Heinz attack with Shane Leonard (69) as Norths set the mark for Heinz Southern Districts at 143 to avoid outright defeat. Michael Davies (3/48) was the best of the bowlers for Heinz.
Wendell Perumal (44) went about chasing the runs, but after he fell to Kumuralingam, Heinz Southern Districts was left treading water, waiting for the inevitable. Navoda Ganegoda (26 not out) did his best to lift the run rate, hitting four boundaries.
Ganegoda ran out of partners as Heinz finished on 142. Glen Pepper took 3/36 to finish with match figures of 8/46. With the bonus points, North Dandenong jump to sixth and HSD slides to tenth.
@BT Sub Sport News:KEYSBOROUGH V DOVETON
Corrie Wilson was the destroyer of Keysborough (120 and 83), as Doveton (3/125dec and 4/82) claimed the most comprehensive win of the season.
Wilson (7/46) dominated the Burras’ top and middle order, as once again the batting was left to the tail. Keysborough was 7/39 before Baden Saunders, Abhinay Motupalli and Chris Chalmers gave the score some legitimacy.
Wilson bowled unchanged as Matt Hutchinson (2/20) and Nick Fairbank (1/6) played the support role at the other end.
Chasing 82 for outright victory, Doveton cantered home with Sean White (38) and Hutchinson (27 not out) getting the runs in 24.5 overs.
Doveton earns top spot on the ladder with the outright win while Keysborough remain in last.
