Senior citizen surprised

NOBLE Park resident Walter Prentice was shocked when he was named the City of Greater Dandenong Senior Citizen of the Year as part of the city’s Australia Day celebrations.
“It came as a bit of a surprise,” he said.
Mr Prentice and his wife Gwen have lived in Noble Park for 50 years and are heavily involved with the Noble Park Uniting Church, which Mr Prentice attributes to his involvement in the wider community.
Some of Mr Prentice’s community efforts include visiting sick and frail in hospital, running youth camps on his 26-hectare (64-acre) Drouin South property for various local youth organisations, and providing emergency housing for children from broken homes.
Mr Pretince, a retired building contractor, concedes he was rather embarrassed by the nomination.
“I appreciate it, it makes me feel rather humbled,” he said.
