GREATER DANDENONG firefighters this week joined hundreds of colleagues in the battle against Victoria’s outbreak of major bushfires.
The Dandenong CFA region’s eight headquarters were the base for the crews to assemble strike teams to send to fires in the Grampians, Anakie, Erica and Moondara and several other hotspots, as intense heat last week increased the chance of bushfires in Victoria.
Crews were briefed and dispatched on Sunday, 22 January, with relief crews being sent every 12 hours as required.
The crews will join counterparts from the Department of Sustainability and Environment, who typically fight fires in national and state parks, but combine forces with the CFA during major bushfires.
