POLICE have urged owners of the people-mover van Toyota Tarago to treat their vehicles more securely following 23 reported thefts in Springvale since January.
Springvale Sergeant Geoff Straughen said police were campaigning for Tarago drivers to ensure they parked in a secure place and kept their vehicles locked at all times.
“It appears to be, to our knowledge, a popular vehicle for young people to steal,” Sgt Straughen said.
“We want to tell people with the vehicle to be mindful of where they park and how they secure them.
“We recommend a steering-wheel lock or some other way of securing the vehicle.”
The campaign follows reports by Endeavour Hills police in March of more than 20 stolen Taragos from across Greater Dandenong and Casey.
In one incident, a 12-year-old boy was nabbed by police driving a stolen vehicle.
