DANDENONG-BASED refugees and migrants can learn the basics of Australian politics, history and cultural values at their local library.
The City of Greater Dandenong Council is running citizenship courses at the library, with the next on Thursday 26 July starting at 6pm.
The mayor, Youhorn Chea, himself once a migrant from Cambodia, encouraged anyone working towards Australian citizenship to take part in the course.
“The citizenship classes help people develop their understanding of Australia and what it means to be an Australian citizen,” Cr Chea said.
“They provide a wealth of information and are a convenient way to learn more about this great nation of ours. I encourage all people considering taking the citizenship pledge to attend this class.”
The class covers Australian institutions, contemporary values, multicultural society, government, law and democracy.
Information on how to apply for citizenship and the citizenship ceremony is also provided.
