Homes plan rejected

GREATER Dandenong council has rejected a controversial housing development despite attempts to defer the item to the next meeting.
Ammache Architects applied to build three double-storey and one single storey dwelling on a block of land currently occupied by one single storey dwelling in Conway Street, Dandenong South.
But the application received scathing objections from neighbouring property owners about the site’s insufficient number of parking spaces, the danger posed by cars to local children and an increase in on-street parking on a dangerous corner.
The council’s planning and design manager Jody Bosman said in his report to the council that the application ‘cannot be supported in its current form’ and that conditions on the permit would fail to solve the planning problems with the application.
Councillors Youhorn Chea and Sue Walton attempted to defer the item at the request of the developer so changes could be made.
But councillors John Kelly and Alan Gordon led a charge to overturn the deferral motion with Cr Kelly stating only a new application should be accepted.
Other councillors supported their stance and rejected the deferral motion and then upheld the officer’s recommendation that the application be refused.
