WALLARANO Primary School captains will be more involved with school proceedings in an effort to boost student involvement and leadership skills.
The school captains, house captains and student representative council were announced at the Noble Park school last week.
Assistant principal Gail Doney said the captains had been voted by the other children, with some teachers’ input as well.
Ms Doney said the school wanted its students to have a bigger role publicly and behind the scenes at the school.
“We want them to be far more visible and responsible around the school,” she said.
The school captains, grade six students Fatima Ashkar and Luke Tuyau, will assist with school assemblies on Mondays and Fridays.
Vice-captains elected were Haylea Wiseman and Shaquille Alkan.
“We need them to be good role models so the younger children look up to them and perhaps aspire to be captains themselves,” Ms Doney said.
All grade fives and sixes participate in a leadership program at the school, learning things such as public speaking and debating.
Next Monday the school and house captains will attend a student leadership forum at the tennis centre in the city.
