RICE normally takes just minutes to prepare, but for Noble Park and Springvale schools it has taken almost two years.
The Interfaith Network’s All Things Rice recipe book was officially launched this week with a host of local schools having contributed rice recipes to the publication.
Among schools contributing were Coomoora Secondary College, Noble Park Primary School, Springvale Secondary College, Springvale South Primary School, Springvale West Primary School, Springvale Secondary College and Southvale Primary School.
Interfaith Network president Helen Heath said the book, which contains a variety of recipes with the common ingredient of rice, was intended to be released in 2004 to coincide with the United Nations’ Year of Rice.
But logistical challenges in the production and printing process forced the book to be delayed, she said.
Last Tuesday, the finished recipe book was launched at the Springvale council office, with Interfaith and local schools promoting it as a recipe book valuable to anyone of any religious or cultural background.
“It is the hope of the Interfaith Network that as people read and enjoy cooking recipes from All Things Rice, they will be aware that, although we may have many faiths, we are one people,” Ms Heath said.
