DANDENONG Community Advisory Bureau’s annual general meeting last week highlighted a need for better mental health services.
DCAB chairman Graham Hooper, who was elected again unopposed, said the organisation had been strengthening its ties with its Springvale sister, SCAAB, with the view of sharing projects and information on how to improve its service delivery.
Mr Hooper recognised the work of volunteers and staff throughout the past year and paid tribute to Judy Jackson who worked at the bureau and whose funeral was held last Thursday on the morning of the meeting.
DCAB manager Carol Drummond highlighted the importance of working with other organisations and said she hoped contact would increase to help them work more effectively.
Eastern Region Mental Health Association (ERMHA) chief executive Peter Waters was the guest speaker at the meeting.
Mr Waters talked about mental health issues in the southeast and various problems faced in the area around mental health care. He praised groups such as DCAB and called for better support and understanding for people with mental illness.
Greater Dandenong mayor Maria Sampey announced the new board, with no changes to the key committee positions.
Councillors Claire O’Neil and David Kelly and Narre Warren North MP Luke Donellan also attended.
