THE Dandenong Thunder Soccer Club is kicking goals after the City of Greater Dandenong council announced it would provide up to $45,000 in dollar-for-dollar funding to have floodlights installed at the Thunder’s home ground in Trewin Street, Dandenong South.
Dandenong Ward councillor Jim Memeti, a supporter of the club, said the move was a milestone for the soccer club, which had spent the past 12 months raising the $45,000 it believed would be adequate to cover half the cost of installing floodlights on the ground.
Mr Memeti said the club could now allow for more junior teams as senior teams moved into night-time playing and training fixtures, loosening up what had become a tight squeeze on the ground’s usage.
