A SPRINGVALE man has died in hospital after he was struck by a car in Springvale on Sunday night.
Police are calling for witnesses after the man was hit by a car at 8.30pm while attempting to cross at the intersection of Springvale and Heatherton Roads.
Police said the man was standing on the median strip when he was struck by a Nissan coupe.
The pedestrian was taken to the Alfred hospital in a critical condition, but he died on Monday afternoon.
The male driver of the Nissan received minor injuries and was taken to the Monash Medical Centre.
Sergeant Chris Carnie of the Major Collision Investigation Unit appealed to witnesses and other drivers who were present at the time to come forward and help police with their investigations.
“We believe that there may have been a second car involved in the collision, possibly a small light-coloured sedan that was seen turning left into Heatherton Road immediately afterwards,” he said.
“Other witnesses have told us that there was a taxi driver who was in his cab in the McDonald’s car park at the time and may also be able to assist with our investigation.”
Anyone who has information about this collision is urged to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
