Asian assistance birthday

THE Springvale Indo Chinese Mutual Assistance Association (SICMAA) celebrated its 24th year in the Greater Dandenong community helping new arrivals from the Indo-China region.
Indo-China is a geographical collection of the Asian countries Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.
The celebration took place in Springvale on Saturday evening, 11 November with guest speaker Lyndhurst MP Tim Holding and a variety of other community representatives in attendance.
President Be Ha also launched the latest SICMAA Annual Report in which she called for the City of Greater Dandenong to provide support for the Indo-Chinese community’s ageing population.
“(We) are still seeking assistance from the City of Greater Dandenong to obtain an appropriate site in Springvale to build the approved aged care facility,” Ms Ha said.
Ms Ha highlighted her community’s increased participation in state and national events including raising more than $4000 for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal this year, holding the Tet Festival and taking part in Clean Up Australia Day.
