THE Dandenong Demons slumped to sixth on the Southern Football League (SFL) Division Three ladder after an 18-point loss to Canterbury at Canterbury Sports Oval on Saturday.
Despite entering the game fresh after last week’s bye, Dandenong failed to stamp any authority on the game and probably should have lost by more.
Canterbury had 13 more scoring shots than the Demons, but were wasteful in attack, 9.21 behinds to Dandenong’s 8.9.
The game was all-square at quarter-time, but a four-goal-to-one second quarter in favour of Canterbury allowed the home side to skip 19 points clear at the main break.
Canterbury extended the lead in the third quarter and withstood a mini-revival from the Demons in the final term to record its fourth win of the season.
Robbie Westin was the best of the Dandenong forwards, booting four goals, while Steve Coats kicked two.
Best for Dandenong were David Black and Vaughan Geddes.
Dandenong has two wins and two losses and faces a season-defining must-win game against Skye, also two and two, at Greaves Reserve on Saturday.
