IT WAS a happy ending for Keysborough Park Primary School students who on Wednesday wrapped up weeks of studying fairytales with a special parade.
Part of the school’s Education Week activities, the Fairytale Parade by grade prep, one and two students was the highlight of a morning aimed at allowing parents to see their children’s work first-hand.
School principal Margaret McKenzie said all grades had work on display, but the Fairytale Parade was a way for younger students to celebrate the study of the traditional tales such as Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the Three Bears and the Billy Goats Gruff.
“In the classroom the focus has been on using fairytales to stimulate students’ writing and reading,” she said.
“Students created displays relating to various stories, and we set up an area in the school to look like fairytale land.”
Children then wrote invitations home to their parents and donned the costume of their favourite fairytale character for the occasion.
The parade was part of an open morning for parents of all students to inspect work.
Ms McKenzie said grade four and five students displayed work from the earn and learn project, which teaches students budgeting skills by treating the classroom as a piece of real estate.
She said students were charged for services such as electricity and heating and must use problem-solving skills to budget wisely.
