ENDEAVOUR United has crept within one game of Doveton’s top spot on the Football Federation Victoria State League Three ladder after a convincing win against Nunawading City on Saturday.
United won 2-0 to draw within three points of Doveton, which went down 1-0 against Sandringham City.
Endeavour has the chance to overtake Doveton and claim top spot this weekend.
United plays two games, one on Saturday against Fitzroy City and one on Monday against Eastern Lions, while Doveton will play just once, away against Eastern Lions.
The coming round serves as a catch-up fixture to align the teams that didn’t play in the first round of the season with the four sides that did.
United enters the weekend full of confidence after a comprehensive defeat of Nunawading, and coach Carlos Retre would no doubt be eyeing two wins from two games.
Ted Ithier and Pedro Sequeira were the goal scorers for United.
Both players are in top form and applying the brilliant touch to the ball that United lacked in its 2-1 loss against Doveton two weeks ago at Reema Reserve.
In other State League Three matches, Berwick City won its third game of the season with a 1-0 victory over Eastern Lions at Jack Thomas Reserve.
Berwick climbed to ninth on the ladder after a Matthew Nitz first-half goal secured the win.
Springvale City recorded a 2-1 upset victory against Southern Suburbs at Keeley Park on Saturday.
Franco Bove and Jusuf Pekmezovic scored for Springvale, which remain second-last on the ladder.
Interestingly, the weekend’s 2-2 draw between Mooroolbark and Frankston Strikers was the first draw of the State League Three season.
