Local business boosted

THE FIRST in a series of business networking functions for 2007 was held at Dandenong’s Drum Theatre last week.
The Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce held the first of its network evenings for 2007 on Wednesday, 4 April, at which business representatives can mingle in an informal environment.
Food and drink is on hand and door prizes are drawn later in the evening.
Aside from two tickets to any production at Dandenong’s Drum Theatre, the other prizes included a two-minute speech where the winner could present an uninterrupted talk about their business.
Chamber of Commerce president Renae MacNamara said she was pleased with last Wednesday’s turnout of about 30 people.
“I thought the crowd was fantastic and it was a different one to previous evenings, meaning it was a good opportunity for businesses to expand their networking opportunities.”
Ms MacNamara said the night was free – a bonus for businesses that would otherwise have to spend money networking with potential clients.
She said that facilitating the networking was a core function of the Chamber of Commerce.
“It’s an opportunity to give businesses access to the other businesses in the area,” she said.
“That is paramount to our (the chamber’s) success.
“If we didn’t do that well enough, we would have to take a good hard look at ourselves.”
Ms MacNamara encouraged more businesses to attend and said the next function would be a networking lunch on 25 May at a venue to be announced.
