GREATER Dandenong Council has appointed three residents to its new Alcohol and Drug Advisory Committee.
Pastor Larry Edwards, Marie Alexander and David Button were voted onto the committee by councillors at Monday night’s council meeting in Dandenong.
The Alcohol and Drug Advisory Committee is the result of a council resolution in late 2007 to start a single body to provide advice to the council on drug and alcohol issues in the city.
It will also provide a meeting point for different community groups, police and the council to exchange ideas and discuss issues.
Notes given to councillors on the trio said that Pr Edwards was from the Power to Change Christian Fellowship and had a long history of working with people in need, including those with drug addictions.
Ms Alexander, a Noble Park resident, has extensive community links and involvement and good ‘hands on and strategic thinking’ abilities.
Mr Button is a Keysborough resident and restaurateur, with experience in senior government roles, including working with the Department of Justice.
The council also endorsed the terms of reference that will guide the committee.
