Diversity worth celebrating

A SERIES of activities celebrating cultural diversity will be held in Greater Dandenong next week.
The activities will coincide with World Refugee Week and will be run by the City of Greater Dandenong Council.
Greater Dandenong youth services acting coordinator Peter Leech said the city’s theme for the celebration would be A Place to Call Home.
“The celebrations are all about creating a home-like atmosphere for people from diverse backgrounds,” he said.
“The celebrations will allow community members to increase their understanding of the life and plight of refugee situations and the positive contributions people from refugee backgrounds have made to the City of Greater Dandenong.”
Mr Leech said activities such as acoustic music, north Indian folk dancing, hip hop and indoor soccer would be held citywide on 19 and 20 June.
“World Refugee Week celebrations and activities are open to everyone,” he said.
“It is a great chance to meet people from different backgrounds and celebrate the cultural diversity that makes Greater Dandenong such a fantastic place to live.”
