SPRINGVALE’S Margaret and Bill Watson are celebrating 50 years of marriage for a reason far greater than the milestone itself.
Sudden death almost tore the avid dart players from one another’s arms in January when Margaret, 68, suffered a bowel blockage and severe complications as a result.
Her family, including daughter Mandy Watts, prepared for the worst.
But Margaret can now claim to be a survivor after pulling through her ordeal and spending the past several months in rehabilitation.
“I’m glad mum is here and that she is over her illness,” Ms Watts said.
“We are a close family and we got through this together.”
Last Saturday, the Watsons celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Dandenong with their family and their darts club friends.
Ms Watts said her parents were avid darts players with Margaret playing at Dandenong and organising ladies’ nights, and Bill taking part at Springvale.
The celebration was a bullseye equivalent as it hit the mark in terms of festive spirit.
