THE Regis Waverley Gardens aged care facility in Dandenong North was officially opened by the Federal Minister for Ageing Julie Bishop on Tuesday after 18 months of operation.
During the official launch of the 111place home, Ms Bishop said models of care available to older Australians reflected changing expectations for aged care.
“Innovative aged care providers like Regis Group Pty Ltd play a key role in widening the choices in care,” she said.
“As the home is in a culturally diverse community, staff members are provided with crosscultural training and bilingual staff and interpreters are available.”
Ms Bishop said Regis provided residents with inhouse pharmacies, libraries, hairdressing, music and crafts and physiotherapy.
“Residents will enjoy comfort and security in a homelike setting complete with their companion pets and, importantly, couples will be able to stay together,” she said.
Regis Waverley Gardens provides 90 lowcare places and 21 highcare places, 14 of which are for people with dementia.
The home also provides double bedrooms with ensuite and lounge for couples, with 12 couples currently residing at the home.
