ELISE Jacques, from Haileybury Newlands school in Keysborough, has the world of dancing at her feet.
The nineyearold has shown incredible talent, taking first spot in the prestigious Royal South Street Society Dance Competition, at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Ballarat.
It is the oldest competition in Australia, with 113 years of history behind it, and runs every year for 11 weeks covering 17 theatrical disciplines.
It offers more than 43,000 onstage performance opportunities for artists from across Australia.
Elise was placed first in the classical solo, neoclassical solo, character solo and songanddance competitions.
She also took first place in the under 10 aggregate at the Phoenix Festival of Dance, held at the Frankston Arts Centre, and won her section at the Mordialloc Eisteddfod.
And she received an almost perfect score of 97 per cent for her recent Royal Academy of Dance examinations.
Elise’s mother, Simone Jacques, said her daughter enjoyed dancing immensely and worked very hard in the leadup to the competition.
“She trains five days a week, which equals 12 hours in classical and theatrical ballet,” Ms Jacques said.
Elise said she enjoys competing and would like to make a career of dancing.
“I love to dance and was thrilled with my wins at the competitions. My dream is to one day dance with the Australian Ballet.”
Elise steps up to fulfill her dream
