COMMUNITY focus groups with key users of the city’s municipal buildings will help determine the future of Springvale’s city hall and library.
The City of Greater Dandenong has opened public consultation on the Springvale Revitalisation project, which covers refurbishing or replacing the municipal buildings, revamping the city’s shopping precinct and other necessary refurbishments that will aim at modernising Springvale to cope with its growing population.
The community consultation will be led by former City of Springvale mayor Phil Reed, who will conduct workshops with city hall and library users, the business community and general community for as long as necessary.
“The workshops will give the community a chance to tell council what they think about the current level and quality of services and facilities, and how they can be improved in the future,” Mr Reed said.
“While a number of options have been developed for consultation, the workshops also provide an opportunity for participants to suggest an option of their own.”
The four main options on the City of Greater Dandenong’s agenda include making minor changes, refurbishing the city hall and library, building a new library while refurbishing the city hall, or building a new city hall and library at a site within an expanded central shopping centre.
The workshops are scheduled for the remainder of this year but Mr Reed said if more people came forward, more workshops would be set up.
Greater Dandenong corporate services director Ross Hepburn said the council was prepared to spend as long as it takes in the consultation period “to do the job properly”.
