GEOFF Fraser has long been policing the health standards of Greater Dandenong’s many restaurants.
Now his work as the City of Greater Dandenong’s environmental health services leader has helped him become president of the Victorian Branch of the Australian Institute of Environmental Health.
His appointment was announced during the Australian Institute of Environmental Health 75th Annual Conference, where more than 160 delegates from across Victoria’s health sector converged on Dandenong for the two-day event last week.
Mr Fraser said his new role will be in addition to his council one but he was looking forward to the challenge.
“With more than 385 Victorian environmental health officers and over 250 members of the institute, the role requires considerable liaison with the Department of Human Services’ director of food safety as well as other units dealing with communicable diseases, waste water and public health,” he said.
“Also communicating with the Municipal Association of Victoria as proposed legislation changes take place and liaison with the National Executive of Environmental Health will be part of the role.
“The role of health officers is varied and unique and they play a vital role in protecting the health of the community.
“From food trading, food handling, immunisations, waste water management, to keeping the peace in local neighbourhoods, the industry faces many challenges and I look forward to being a part of the changes sweeping the industry.”
