LIFE is only beginning for the retired residents at Valley Village Mews.
The Dandenong-based retirement village is packed with golden-age guys and gals pursuing the hobbies of their dreams.
Village manager Cynthia Mack said Valley Village Mews would hold an open day this Sunday beginning at 10am to show potential retirement village residents the benefits of moving to a village as opposed to a beach retreat or country shack.
“The residents will be putting their crafts and hobbies on show to demonstrate that when you do come to a retirement village, life has not ended,” she said.
“There is plenty you can do and most of the houses have got a garage so you can keep doing activities craft-related activities.”
Among the hobbies Valley Village Mews residents pursue are model railway sets, woodturning, bonsai plants, art, and running classic movies through vintage film projectors.
In addition to the hobbies, Ms Mack said the village lifestyle allowed for those who would otherwise be isolated to socialise.
“There is a lot of company here, and you can either stay home and do nothing, or come into the main centre and play carpet bowls, billiards, cards, bingo, and enjoy some line dancing,” she said.
Valley Village Mews’ open day will run from 10am to 4pm with a sausage sizzle for lunch. A selection of homes will also be opened for inspection. The village is at 112 Stud Road, Dandenong.
