MULTICULTURAL support groups in Greater Dandenong shared in almost $30,000 of State Government funding handed out on Friday.
Dandenong MP John Pandazopoulos presented 14 cheques to 12 different organisations based in Dandenong.
The Serbian Welfare Association of Victoria received two cheques totalling $4200 for a community strengthening program and refugee women’s support groups.
The Shri Sanatan Dharam Society of Victoria secured $3200 for heating and cooling equipment, while the Burgher Association Australia has $2800 to spend on roof and spouting repairs at its headquarters.
Springvale Primary School, the Standard Chinese Language School and Victorian Tamil Cultural Association received funding for after hours ethnic schools programs, and Wellsprings for Women has an extra $3500 to spend on support programs.
Sam Afra, who’s both the chairman of Ethnic Communities Council of the South East and Mr Pandazopoulos’ electorate secretary, said the grants were part of an important funding program.
“The grants help them achieve what they aim to do for their own communities,” he said.
