Let them eat chocolate cake

TOO many cooks can spoil the broth but last week some Dandenong North preschoolers proved that old saying wrong.
Last Thursday, 21 children from Rosswood Preschool cooked up a storm, preparing the chocolate cake to rival all chocolate cakes.
The cooking was in preparation for Friday, when residents from the nearby Outlook Gardens Hostel and Retirement Village came to the preschool for morning tea and a sing along.
Preschool teacher Glenda Cox said the morning was a lovely idea as it was nice for older and younger people to mix together.
“It is nice for people to have an outing and come and interact with children,” Ms Cox said.
“Many of the children do not have grandparents or if they do they live far away so it is also good for the children.
“Some of the people will come along in wheelchairs and with walking frames so it is also good for the children to become familiar with these things.
“That way they are not so strange when they see them in the community,” she said.
Ms Cox said all of the students had helped bake and ice the cake.
“The kids are mostly excited about the cake,” she said.
“They have all had a stir and held the electric mixer or helped add an ingredient and they are all going to have a go at icing and putting sprinkles on the top.
“The kids seem even more excited about the cake they have made than the visit.”
