RACV wants old batteries

NOBLE Park residents will have the opportunity to inject new life into their unused car batteries this month.
The Royal Automotive Club of Victoria (RACV), in conjunction with the City of Greater Dandenong, is having a Great Battery Round Up on Saturday, 14 October.
The RACV is calling for residents to round up their unused batteries and take them to the RACV headquarters in Noble Park where they will be sent for recycling.
The round-up is aiming to cut the number of batteries left lingering in otherwise natural environments where the lead-based battery acid seeps into soils and plantation.
As a bonus, the RACV will donate $1 to the Royal Children’s Hospital for every battery rounded up.
Greater Dandenong mayor Peter Brown jumped aboard the idea and said the Noble Park collection would also be helping the RACV as a local business.
The RACV recycles more than 100,000 batteries each year under strict environmental controls.
The lead acid battery tops the list of the most highly recycled consumer product.
A large percentage of the average car battery is recyclable and the components can be reused in making new batteries.
The RACV Great Battery Round Up will hit Noble Park on Saturday 14 October between 9am and 2pm, at RACV headquarters, 550 Princes Highway, with access from gate four on Browns Road.
