LAST Friday afternoon, David ‘Snowy’ McLean was given a fitting farewell from Burden Park Bowling Club when he watched his beloved team beat the Canadian international side four games to two.
The 89yearold was comfortably positioned in front of the sixth rink, beer in hand, watching world class bowlers do battle at the club he has almost called home for the last 30 years.
It was Snowy’s last visit to the Springvale club, and he said the beer seemed to taste even sweeter than usual.
Snowy has since moved to Paynesville to live with his daughter.
The Springvale resident of 50 years was both happy and sad to be leaving.
“I’ve got plenty of very happy memories from here,” he said.
“I’ll miss the club.”
Snowy said watching the Chairman’s XI take on the Canadian side was a great thrill and he was amazed at the standard of bowling.
“I was here when the Kenyan side visited and played our team.
“The Canadian side is very talented. I’m still confident that Burden Park will beat them on our home green, though.”
Much to his delight, the Burden Park team walked away with a victory, as the Canadian side prepared for the AsiaPacific Games next week.
Despite watching from the sidelines, Snowy said the win let him leave with one more lasting memory.
