THE Springvale-Noble Park (SNP) State League Three men’s hockey side scored an easy 5-0 victory against Werribee at Mills Reserve on Saturday.
There were no backward steps in the fiery contest between ladder leader SNP and fourth-placed Werribee as players put their bodies on the line in the lead-up to the state finals.
SNP goalkeeper Michael Shipton was inspirational for his side, repelling Werribee shots on goal and finishing with a clean sheet.
With just two matches remaining in the home-and-away season, SNP shared top spot on the ladder with Brunswick.
The majority of SNP’s players are based in the Casey and Dandenong areas, making the powerful team a truly local club.
If SNP finishes top of the ladder, the side is guaranteed a promotion to the State League Two division, the second-highest in the state.
All State League finals are played at the State Hockey and Netball Centre in Parkville, where players from participating teams will come under the watchful eye of state selectors.
This Saturday SNP travels to Knox College to take on the struggling Eastern side.
