‘Keep politics out of council’

THE City of Greater Dandenong welcomed newly-elected councillors into the Springvale Council Chambers on Monday night in front of a packed chamber.
Following the swearing-in, councillors were given time to speak and thank residents for voting for them.
The majority of councillors congratulated new mayor Pinar Yesil and spoke about their future plans for the council.
Cr Maria Sampey thanked her family and supporters but also highlighted the importance of council staying separate from State and Federal politics.
“Politics need to be kept out of council,” Cr Sampey said.
“Decisions need to be made for the residents of Dandenong.
“Cr Herring would have been great to have as mayor – I believe she would have done a great job,” she said.
