SOUTHERN Health’s Leanne Satherley has been awarded Victoria’s 2008 Nursing Excellence award in Division Two nursing.
Based at Casey Hospital but working at Dandenong Hospital and Monash Medical Centre, Ms Satherley said she was surprised to receive the award.
“It was a bit of a shock,” she said.
“I knew it was to promote nursing in Victoria but I didn’t think I would win.”
She said a fellow workmate had nominated her.
Ms Satherley said she thought she was chosen for the award because of the opportunities given her by Southern Health.
“I guess it’s because I have gone above and beyond my job description as a Division Two nurse,” she said.
“I’ve been coordinating training for the way we work with mental health patients.
“I noticed that we could be doing better, so this takes into consideration all aspects of care for both the patient and the nurses involved.”
