BOWLERS ruled the day in Round 8 of the Dandenong District Cricket Association’s Turf 1 competition.
Doveton’s Ryan Hendy (4/24), Narre Warren’s Wendell Perumal (4/31), Springvale South’s Nick Bole-Brown (4/21) and North Dandenong’s Yuri Ryaboshapka (3/15) all played big parts in helping their sides to victory.
@BT Sub Sport News:Parkfield v Cranbourne
Parkfield knocked off Cranbourne in a nail-biter at Parkfield Reserve on Saturday, successfully defending 151.
Cranbourne’s run-chase got off to a shaky start, with both openers posting just four runs each.
But captain Ross Woodall (33) and Daniel Diwell (29) steadied the ship and kept the runs ticking over.
Cranbourne closed in on Parkfield’s total but the wickets kept tumbling, and when Lucas Ligt fell as the ninth wicket, still six runs short of the total, the warning signs were there.
In the end, the visitors ran out of overs, ending the day on 9/149 — two runs short.
@BT Sub Sport News:Keysborough v Doveton
Doveton cleaned up Keysborough in a low-scoring affair at Keysborough Reserve, with the Doves’ bowlers deciding the day.
Keysborough batted first but was dismal at the crease, with only three players reaching double figures, and the side was all out for 92.
For the Doves, it was Ryan Hendy (4/24), Corrie Wilson (2/19) and the efficient Nathan Wilson (1/11 off eight) who did the damage with the ball.
Doveton took just 24 overs to chase down the total, for the loss of three wickets.
@BT Sub Sport News:Buckley Ridges v Narre Warren
Buckley Ridges fell out of the top four after going down to Narre Warren at Buckley Ridges’ Park Oval. The home side batted first and posted 183, while Narre Warren’s Wendell Perumal continued his good form with the ball, picking up season-best figures of 4/31.
When Narre Warren took its turn at the crease, Shean Vanderwert carried his bat in an impressive knock, scoring 69 off 91 balls.
Vanderwert was the dominant hand in a perfectly timed innings from the visitors, who overran Buckley Ridges’ score with six balls remaining.
@BT Sub Sport News:Springvale South v Coomoora
Top side Springvale South maintained its position at the head of the ladder with a hard-fought victory over Coomoora at Springvale’s Alex Nelson Reserve on Saturday.
The home side went to the crease first and healthy contributions from a number of batsmen, including Michael Davies (49 not out) and Rory Ingram (36) helped the score to 6/198 off the 40 overs.
Coomoora whittled down the gap with a 115-run fourth-wicket partnership between Robert Johnston (63) and Manoj Hettjarachchi (61), but a run-out broke the pairing and Coomoora never recovered.
Nick Bole-Brown was the main destroyer with the ball collecting figures of 4/21 off seven overs as Springvale South bowled Coomoora out for 184.
@BT Sub Sport News:North Dandenong v St Mary’s
North Dandenong cruised into the top four with a big seven-wicket win over St Mary’s at Alex Nelson Reserve on Sunday.
St Mary’s started the day at the crease but suffered as North Dandenong’s Yuri Ryaboshapka ripped through the top order in a blistering four-over spell, picking up 3/15.
The only one he did not claim was opener Nick McKay (54), who helped his side to a reasonable 7/166 off the 40 overs.
But it was never going to be enough against North Dandenong’s batting line-up, and the home side coasted to victory, with Carman Mapatuna (78 not out) and Scott Neeson (50) doing the damage.
