SEXUAL Crime Squad detectives have arrested a 56-year-old man in relation to Operation Lamias.
The man was arrested at a residential address in Bonbeach about 10:30am Saturday.
Detective Inspector Paul O’Halloran said the public had played a major role in the investigation.
“We received an incredible response from the public which has enabled us to move forward with this investigation,” Detective Inspector O’Halloran said.
He said the Sexual Crime Squad had also drawn on the expert knowledge of local police from the Dandenong CIU.
“Their support was a fundamental part of the success of this operation,” Detective Inspector O’Halloran said.
The man was remanded in custody until Tuesday on seven charges including rape, sexual penetration of a child under 16, indecent act with child under 16 and indecent act in presence of child under 16.
More charges are expected to be laid.
