Fantastic response for relief concert

By Melissa Meehan
MORE than 500 people joined Victoria Police in partnership with Te Waka One Ocean to acknowledge the Gippsland bushfire victims on Saturday.
Joined by CFA, SES, the Police Show Band, One Ocean Te Waka Polynesian youth performers, Morwell Aboriginal performers, African and Indian performers, sports clubs, and personalities the day was a resounding success.
Dandenong’s Senior Constable Eddie MacDonald said the young people who were part of the Te Waka One Ocean program wanted to do something for victims and would donate sporting equipment to school kids from proceeds.
“It was a fantastic day,” he said. “It was great to be able to work with all different community groups. People say that Dandenong is multicultural and it was such a pleasure to be able to work together.”
He said the support from the community was outstanding.
“The amount raised is still being counted but it was a superb day,” he said.
