CELEBRATION filled the air on Thursday as Minaret College officially opened its Sheikha Mogah Junior School building in Springvale.
“The opening of this junior school will ensure modern Australian Muslims will continue to contribute in all walks of life including teachers, doctors and farmers, not only kebab shops and Persian rugs,” college board chairman Dr Ahmed Hassan told guests. Junior school head Fairooza Mawjood said the opening was an auspicious and historic moment.
“Term three 2008 marked a new era for us. The junior primary students moved into this state-of-the-art facility unmatched by other schools in the area,” she said.
She said that the school would help mould the minds of the students with both secular and religious information. Cardinia mayor Bill Pearson said he was proud that the school had chosen Officer for its next campus.
“It will add to our multicultural community,” he said, “and add to diversity and values of the country.” After the speeches junior school students danced and sang to mark the occasion.
