Dance is making moves

AN award-winning dance work that explores the concept of building is coming to the Frankston Arts Centre for its only performance in Victoria.
Shifting between the physical act of building and the emotional construction of lives Construct will explore, with wicked humour, the curious connections between building a home, a life, a relationship and a future.
The dance show will start with an empty theatre full of possibility, a space in which to construct.
It will unfold to explore the concept of building in a sharp, witty and vigorous way.
Construct was the final dance work of Tanja Liedtke, who was killed in a road accident in August 2007, at the age of 29.
When putting the show together Tanja said Construct could apply to many things, from personal careers and relationships, to larger matters.
“We build cities and destroy them, great civilisations fall apart and things increase and decrease,” she said.
“It’s a universal subject, something that is inherent in the world.”
When the show comes to Frankston it will feature original cast members and choreographers, Paul White and Kristina Chan, and the company will be joined by Lisa Griffiths for the tour.
Construct is directed by Solon Ulbrich, Tanja’s partner in life and business.
Mr Ulbrich said this show was in demand worldwide but they were more thrilled to tour across Australia.
“In presenting this tour we sustain and share Tanja’s vision, formed and nurtured here in Australia, and continue to construct an exciting future for Australian contemporary dance,” Mr Ulbrich said.
Just two weeks ago Construct was awarded Outstanding Achievement in Choreography, Outstanding Achievement in Independent Dance and Outstanding Performance by a Female Dancer at the 2009 Australian Dance awards.
Construct will be at the Frankston Arts Centre on Tuesday 23 June, at 8pm.
Cost per adult ticket $40 and concession is $35.
